DA Foundation Seeks Executive Director of Development

Job Overview:
The Executive Director of Development is responsible for directing, leading and executing a strategic fundraising plan focused on major gifts. The position will lead Deutsches Altenheim Foundation Board and Deutsches Altenheim, Inc. senior staff to identify funding and donor engagement opportunities, and is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of five to six figure gifts, with a first year goal of $250,000 in confirmed gifts, with expectation of substantial increased goals in each future year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research potential donors to gain insights into priorities, application guidelines, relationships and other charitable giving to understand how to effectively position Deutsches Altenheim Foundation for funding.
  • Effectively set and deliver on ambitious goals. Prioritize qualified, high value donors and build relationships with those with the greatest potential to make significant gifts.
  • Identify, research, and manage a portfolio of 150 to 200 major gift prospects, which includes individuals, corporations and foundations. Continuously build the donor pipeline. Manage donor portfolio with a straightforward and efficient process, documenting donor interaction and pipeline movement in the database of record.
  • Solicit foundations and submit grant applications or proposals to support designated operating and program priorities to meet or exceed annual fundraising targets.
  • Strategically involve the Deutsches Altenheim Foundation Board and Deutsches Altenheim, Inc. senior staff in developing relationships with major gift prospects when an existing relationship or influence is determined.
  • Develop and execute on donor engagement plans, including recognition, stewardship and fulfillment reporting.
  • Strategically direct and collaborate with Deutsches Altenheim Director of Development to fully leverage development opportunities, initiatives, and messaging.

Preferred Education, Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, marketing or related program.
  • Five to seven years of experience in fundraising, managing a diverse portfolio of donors, and with a proven record qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding five and six figure gifts.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Resilient under pressure, highly responsive, resourceful and open minded.
  • Motivated by ambitious goals and deadlines.
  • Adaptable and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Team player with excellent customer service, problem solving and organization skills.
  • High degree of professionalism, attention to detail, discretion and sound judgement.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office, CRM databases, Raiser’s Edge experience preferred, and proficient use of research platforms, such as Foundation Directory, Donor Search.

The Executive Director of Development will report to Deutsches Altenheim Foundation’s President and Board and work with Deutsches Altenheim Executive Director and senior staff of Deutsches Altenheim, Inc.  Internal administrative support will assist with development tasks such as database entry and gift recognition.
