The Controller manages all aspects of accounting and finance activities. He or she develops and oversees the financial strategies and operations of the School in partnership with the Head of Administration and the Board of Trustees. The Controller is a key, hands-on partner working with the School’s leadership to ensure the financial health of the School and to allocate resources and plan for growth in a manner that implements the vision and mission of the School.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, are to:

  • Develop and manage the School’s annual budgeting process, prepare budget analyses, and reports;
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial books and ensure accounting practices comply with generally accepted accounting principles;
  • Manage the annual financial audit;
  • Manage billing and accounts receivable, oversee revenue collection and work with families as needed;
  • Manage accounts payable and monitor expenditures to ensure budget alignment;
  • Monitor the School’s cash position, reserves and capital expenditures and oversee the relationship with the School’s financing partners;
  • Prepare routine and case-specific financial reports, analyses, and projections of accounts and activities;
  • Complete regulatory filings and reporting to German authorities;
  • Administer the School’s Tuition Assistance Program;
  • Assist with the implementation of new policies and procedures;
  • Provide assistance to school staff;
  • Coordinate and manage special projects;
  • Work with the HR Manager to track the personnel budget and review monthly payroll;
  • Represent the Head of Administration in his/her absence.

WHO YOU ARE

The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, have a strong financial background, be skilled in analytic and quantitative analyses and be committed to a customer-service approach to school operations. Because we are a small school, we are looking for an individual who is equally comfortable with big-picture strategic thinking as they are with tactical operations and hands-on implementation. He/she must be a team player and willing to jump in and help out as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years experience as Controller, Director of Finance, CFO, or similar role;
  • In-depth knowledge of finance and accounting principles, law, and best practices;
  • Ability to perform financial analysis and forecasting;
  • High level of proficiency in the use of Excel, as well as Quickbooks accounting software;
  • Analytical mindset with a strategic awareness and flexibility to adapt in a dynamic environment;
  • Superior communication and interpersonal abilities, exhibiting honesty, integrity and transparency;
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance required; advanced degree, preferred; and
  • German written and spoken fluency preferred
